DIY Annabeth Chase Costume

September 19, 2017 By Brandy 87 Comments

My daughter is really enjoying the Percy Jackson series of books!  One of her favorite characters has been Annabeth Chase.  My daughter likes her so much that she asked me to create her an Annabeth Chase costume for this upcoming Halloween.  My daughter’s birthday also falls in October and she wants a Camp Half-Blood themed party; I decided to surprise her with her Annabeth Chase Halloween costume early so she can wear it to her birthday party.  Today I will share with you how to make this DIY Annabeth Chase costume on your own…and of course we made a doll sized costume to match!

Below is a picture of Annabeth Chase that we used for inspiration.  Annabeth is described as having blond hair and gray eyes.  She wears an orange Camp Half-Blood t-shirt and a blue New York Yankees cap.  The books also describes Annabeth wearing silver owl earrings and a camp beaded necklace.

Each costume, girl and doll, got a Camp Half-Blood shirt, a New York Yankees cap, a camp beaded necklace, and silver owl earrings.

My daughter’s orange shirt was purchased at Michaels.  Michaels offers great t-shirts for crafting.  I purchased this shirt with a coupon for a little over $2.  I purchased the doll’s orange shirt on eBay.  The graphic logo was created with black iron-on vinyl and my Cricut machine.  The font is Disney Heroic.  The Pegasus image was found on a Google search and to my knowledge was designed by the book’s author, Rick Riordan.  I also created a graphic logo that has “Long Island Sound” under the Pegasus, but my daughter vetoed that image.

If you don’t have a Cricut, no worries, simply print your shirt logo onto printable iron-on paper, cut with scissors, and iron.  My favorite printable transfer paper is by Jolee’s, found at Michaels.

If needed, I will provide the Camp Half-Blood logos to you  for free via email, Brandy@BrandysHappyHome.com  .  Their image resolutions will change when posted in the blog article; the images will be clearer if emailed directly to you.

The New York Yankees women’s cap was found on eBay.  I got VERY lucky and felt like I won the jackpot when I found a doll sized Yankees cap on eBay as well.  This doll sized cap is American Girl brand and came with an adorable vintage Yankees doll sized baseball uniform.

I found a fantastic Annabeth Chase Camp Half-Blood bead necklace at Etsy shop, Crafty Nightshade: https://www.etsy.com/listing/483908359/percy-jackson-camp-bead-necklace.  This particular necklace has 7 beads: Thalia’s Tree Bead, the Centaur in a Dress Bead, the Burning Trireme Bead, the Trident Bead, the Golden Fleece Bead, the Daedalus Bead, and the Empire State Building Bead.  My daughter and I found this necklace to be of very good quality on a suede rope with a lobster clasp.  The painted beads have nice detailing and are very colorful.

And the fabulous artist at Crafty Nightshade made a custom order for a doll sized Annabeth Chases camp necklace.

We also found adorable owl earrings on Amazon.  In the Percy Jackson books it mentions that that Annabeth wears silver owl earrings.  The owl represents her goddess mother, Athena.

We also found very tiny owl earrings on Amazon for $6 that would fit an American Girl doll perfectly.  Since these earrings are on standard posts we have two options: 1.  Pierce her dolls ears with the tack method or 2. Have the dolls ears pierced at an AG store and make custom earrings by cutting off the posts of the owl earrings with wire cutters and gluing to an AG earring that was not be used.  My daughter was indecisive so we decided to wait.

My daughter and I both loved how the Annabeth Chase costume came together!  It’s wonderful when books inspire you!  Here’s a pic of my daughter being silly, posing with her doll!

Craft on!

    Hi Brandy,
How fabulous is this?!!! Could you send me the logos too? Love the idea of the doll having a camp halfblood shirt. The ratings are a great bonus too. Thanks for your work and inspiration.

My daughter has been deeply in love with this series, and all the continuing series. She has even read all the extras! She wears CHB shirts all the time. She also does things like eat blue food all the time and plays with “swords” outside. Her birthday is coming up and I would love to get a doll costume for the doll I bought her! Can you send me the design, please?
