I was born in 1955 and I used to wear feed sack dresses that my Grandma made for me and my sister. We would go to the general store with Dad and pick out the sack of feed that had the print we liked, and once home my Dad would empty the sack into a barrel. Then the feedsack was washed, and my Grandmother would cut out and sew the dresses. I loved them – the more they were washed, the softer the material became. Mom would not let us wear them to church, however.
