How to Make an Apple TV for your Doll STEM Room

December 13, 2017 By Brandy 2 Comments

One of my daughters’ favorite things in their STEM classrooms is technology!  A lot of their classroom Interactive Whiteboards are being replaced with Apple TVs.  My daughters and I decided that we should craft up an Apple TV for our doll STEM room.  And of course you need an IPad to run your Apple TV…we crafted that up too!  Our STEM room doll Apple TV and IPad are super easy crafts; you’ll have all your apps up and running in no time! 😉

We love how the DIY doll sized Apple TV looks in the NASA inspired STEM room!  We think American Girl’s Girl of the Year 2018, Luciana Vega will approve of her new “space.”  🙂

I bet the dolls are looking up NASA’s Facebook page!  OR maybe they are using their Apple TV and IPad to research the International Space Station!

To make the TV we created a foamboard frame.  We used the leftover foamboard from the STEM room trifold background.   You could also easily make this frame out of thick black cardstock paper.  For more information on our doll STEM room see here: http://brandyshappyhome.com/stem-room-for-dolls/

I used a Foamwerks channelrail and straight cutter to make these cuts.  These small straight cuts could also be made with a yard stick and box cutter.  Cut two pieces that are 12 inch long and 7/8 inches wide.  Cut two pieces that are 7-3/4 inches long and 7/8 inches wide.  Hot glue together as shown.

I spray painted the front and sides in a glossy black paint.

To create the screen I used a letter sized sheet protector; the ones made to insert into three ring binders.  Using your hot glue gun, or glue stick, glue the hole punched seam of the protector sheet to the back of the top frame.  Only glue the one edge.  This makes it easier to slid your sheets of paper into the sleeve.

Print off your DIY doll classroom Apple TV screen with Apps here: Apple TV Screen

Attach to the backdrop with poster putty.  This makes for easy removal of the frame and ability to switch out the screen insert of your choice.

My daughters reminded me that all Apple TVs need an IPad or tablet to use as the remote!  We recycled the tablet that came with our American Girl Grace baking set.  We created a matching printable, cut it out , and inserted it into the tablet opening.  You don’t have this AG tablet?  No worries!  We created a tablet printable for you!  Just print, cut, and glue to a piece of thick cardboard…recycle a cereal box!

You can find your IPad / table printable here: STEM Room Ipads

If you want to change out the IPad screen, simply cut out the rectangular screen area that is provided and replace with image of choice.

Craft on!
