Dye Free Pink Pizzelles

January 20, 2017 By Brandy 8 Comments

I am so excited to share with you today these super cute pink pizzelles with cream filling!  These pizzelles are not only super yummy and eye catching, but they are also red dye free!  One of my daughters is extremely sensitive to artificial red dyes.  After the Christmas holidays she was a bit bummed that she couldn’t partake in a lot of the holiday baked goods and candies.  I was determined to make her a PINK sweet treat by Valentine’s Day.  Today I will share with you a dye free food colorant and….drumroll….dye free sprinkles!

To start off I want to share with you my vanilla pizzelle and cream filling recipes!  You can find them below:

Once I made my dough recipe I took half the dough and added one package of the pink food colorant from Color Kitchen.  All of Color Kitchen’s colors are plant-based, gluten free, and non-gmo.  This pink food colorant is made from beets.

The dough color lightened with baking.  Raw, the dough is a melon color.  I’m sure if you added more colorant you could get a red color.  But, this dye free colorant is a bit pricey.  In the box comes 1 pack of pink, 1 blue, and 1 yellow and I paid $10.35.  But honestly the price was worth the smile on my daughters face and for me to not worry about her getting a rash on her face and tongue.

The pink really stands out when next to the non-dyed pizzelle.  They was absolutely no change in taste with this beet based dye.   **Tip** DO NOT overbake.  If you bake too long the color seems darker and less vibrant.  I baked these pizzelles for 20 seconds each.  I baked them individually and removed promptly and wrapped them immediately around the wood dowel that came with my machine.

YES!!!  Sprinkles without artificial dyes!  My daughter was ecstatic!  AND…they are super yummy.  These sprinkles are made by India Tree and I purchased them on Amazon.

The India tree “Carnival Mix” sprinkles added a wonderful color twinkle to these cream fill pizzelles!

We also used these sprinkles to decorate the inner edges of  pizzelle cream sandwiches.  We LOVE sprinkles in this house!!!

Wishing you and yours and Happy Valentine’s Day!  Craft on!

I can relate to this post. I am allergic to chocolate, nuts, fish eggs and a few other things because of my asthma. The colors of the food are so pretty.
