Harley Quinn Doll Outfit

September 24, 2016 By Brandy 8 Comments

My youngest daughter has fallen in love with the DC Superhero Girls!  Her favorite character is Harley Quinn.  She likes her silly and funny behavior.  My daughter likes her so much that she wanted to be Harley Quinn for Halloween.  AND…of course she wanted a Harley Quinn outfit for her doll!  I thought a Harley Quinn doll outfit would be easy to find, it was not.  After researching the character a bit more I was amazed that she was much more that a silly comic/cartoon character from the DC Superhero Girls.  I knew right away I didn’t want a doll based on the somewhat naughty Suicide Squad version.  Plus, I wanted the outfit to be able to hold up to play.

This is the cartoon picture that I used for inspiration.

harley-quinn-doll-outfit-inspirationI purchased a black shirt with puffed sleeves from an eBay store called Simply for Dolls.  The link to this exact shirt can be found here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/BLACK-Solid-Puff-Sleeve-DOLL-SHIRT-TOP-fits-18-AMERICAN-GIRL-Doll-Clothes-/291725758806 .  The store link is here: http://stores.ebay.com/Simply-for-Dolls?_trksid=p2047675.l2563 .

I created an image that could be printed off onto iron-on paper and ironed to the shirt.  I am giving you this printable for your personal use; no resale due to copyright.

I printed the image onto Jolee’s Transfer Sheets for Dark Fabric.  These were found at Michaels. 71a140p0el-_sl1200_

I wanted royal blue doll shorts for this outfit.  I found an awesome Etsy seller, Carol, from Lorelie Creations.  She made the shorts and had them shipped within three days!  You can find Lorelie Creations here: https://www.etsy.com/shop/loreliecreations.  By purchasing from this shop you also support a special ministry, Shepard’s Haven of Rest: http://www.shorministries.com

I knew I did not want this doll to have tights.  Tights just don’t seem to hold up to doll play. I decided to use mismatched socks; one black and one red.  I found socks here: http://dorisdollboutique.com/.  Dori’s Doll Boutique also has an eBay store found here: http://stores.ebay.com/Doris-Doll-Boutique?_trksid=p2047675.l2563 .

harley-quinn-doll-shoesI found royal blue sparkly shoes here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/BLUE-Sequin-DOLL-SNEAKERS-Tennis-SHOES-fits-18-AMERICAN-GIRL-Doll-Clothes-/291653095833 .  This is the same eBay shop, Simply for Dolls, where I purchased the puffed sleeve black shirt.

I purchased the colored clip in hair wefts from an eBay seller here: http://www.ebay.com/usr/booklolo?_trksid=p2047675.l2559 .  I liked that this seller was in the US.  I have purchased these wefts before from overseas venders and they take forever to arrive.  These arrived within 4 days of ordering.  These wefts were very long.  I simply cut to desired length.  Tip…don’t cut until you clip in place.  Due to doll’s side part the blue weft will need to be longer than the red.  I sprayed a tiny bit of water on the wefts and used a curling iron on a low heat to get the curve I needed.  DO NOT leave iron in place for any length of time.  It is best to do repeat attempts on curl than to risk melting the weft.

The mask was created from a printable I made.  I printed the mask image onto cardstock paper and cut out.  I attached a black elastic band with brads.  I think the mask would be super cute in vinyl!

The Harley Quinn Doll Mask Printable is here: harley-quinn-doll-mask-printable

Here is a picture of the doll without her mask.  Harley’s ‘studded bracelet’ is a loom bracelet made by daughter; she wanted to join in on the crafting fun!

My daughter is ecstatic with her Harley Quinn Doll Outfit!  I can’t wait to see how yours turn out!  Craft on!  Brandy

I love your doll’s costume! My daughter is huge into DC SuperHero Girls right now too, and she just loves Harley Quinn. Of course when she saw the Suicide Squad version, she was sold. I had to really work to make it into an appropriate Halloween costume for an eight year old! (eight going on thirteen lol!)

Hi Brandy! My daughter is just now getting into the DC Superhero Girls. We LOVE this outfit! Her favorite is Katana which of course is the hardest to find anything for! I might have to create my own! So is the show just on You Tube?

Amanda, Oh if you create a Katana let me know, I would love to see it! To my knowledge the show is just on YouTube and there are a few DVDs available too.

What a fantastic job! The little costume is perfect! It’s funny to me how appealing Harley Quinn is to young girls right now…both my girls (ages 4 and 7) have gotten into the DC Superhero Girls as well and they both really like her. We went into FYErecently and they had a huge statue/figurine (like at least 6 ft tall) Harley Quinn dressed as her “Suicide Squad” version and I had to explain that that was Harley Quinn as well, but the “scary” version, lol.

Farrah, I completely agree. I was very unfamiliar with the “Suicide Squad” version…she is a bit naughty. lol. However, the DC Superheroes version is so adorable!
