Our Generation Doll Review

August 10, 2016 By Brandy 15 Comments

Today I want to share with you my review of one of the Our Generation dolls that is available on-line and in stores at Target.  My daughters and I have been long time lovers of the Our Generation line of toys for a very long time.  To my surprise we have never owned an OG doll so I was thrilled to get my hands on this doll and find out what she was all about.  And hands down I was not disappointed…let me share with you what I found.

Our Generation Doll review

The doll I am reviewing is April.  April came well boxed.  She was easily removed by cutting two cable ties and two rubber bands.  My daughters fell in love at first sight and are arguing on who gets dibs!  On the back of the box is a cute write up called “this is our story.”  My daughters loved reading the story line and the information provided about a real life girl.  The company definitely promotes ethics…exactly what I want my daughters and their generation to have.

“There’s never been a generation of girls quite like us.  We’re following family traditions while creating some really cool ones of our own.  Like teaching our younger cousins to recycle and collecting dresses for girls who would have otherwise gone without.  We play hopscotch and jump rope and jacks until we are out of breath from laughing and just can’t hop, jump or jack one more time.  We’re dreamers and doers.  And we’re here to do it all.  This is our time.  This is our story.”

Our generation doll April

The weight of the doll is very nice.  She stands easily on her own and holds in place.  She is actually one of the easiest dolls I have ever posed!

Our Generation doll clothes

We LOVE the outfit.  This blouse and skirt set is perfect for back to school playing as the teacher or student.  The blouse has real button holes that work like a charm…no pulling or pushing the buttons.  The Velcro on the skirt is very thin and soft. Her glasses add the perfect touch.  The shoes are of high quality plastic and remove easily and are put on without effort.  When you add the little knee high socks, this outfit becomes a classic go-to outfit for your doll’s Fall wardrobe.

our generation doll face

This Our Generation doll, April, has super cute petite face mold.  My daughters liked that she wasn’t showing teeth and has shy smile.  Her eyes are a very pretty soft green; the green has variations of shades.  Her eyebrows are well shaped.  She has sleep eyes that work well and evenly.

our generation doll hands and feet

The Our Generation doll’s hands and feet are created with nails and creases / lines.  LOVE these details!

our generation doll body

The Our Generation doll body is full cloth with high quality plastic arms and legs.  The plastic is firm.  The head is attached with what feels like an internal cable tie.  The dolls holds a pose well; limbs are tight.  There is an OG tag on side of doll.

Our Generation doll hair

The hair is a beautiful red!  The hair is shiny and silky.  The hair is also very think.  Here is a picture of the doll out of her pig tails. In some hair styles the scalp does show, but I have found that in almost every 18 inch doll I have owned.  Rubber bands are used to hold the pigtails in place to the box for packaging.  After removing, I was concerned with the impression the bands had left crimps  on the dolls hair, but they quickly fell out with play.  Here is a picture of the dolls hair fully down.  I’m not a big fan of the layers, but my daughters liked them.

Overall this Our Generation doll gets a HUGE thumbs up!  The price point is so reasonable compared to its competitors.   OG is definitely giving brands like American Girl a good run for its money!  I look forward to seeing what new items the Our Generation line has in store for us.

Can you tell me if their legs move. Like can u put them in a sitting position. Thinking about buy 2 Our Generation dolls for Christmas. I was going to have my son in law build a doll house & put in a kitchen table where the dolls can sit & living room furniture. That’s why I need to know if you can put them in a sitting position

Hi Barbara! Yes, the OG dolls can sit. Their legs are movable at the hips. Their knees do not bend. When they sit, their legs will go straight out. There might be a slight “V” pattern to their legs when in a seated position. They fit well with furniture.

I would just like to say you should put accessories in all the doll packages. It looks like a lot of the black doll have nothing but the doll. But is the same price as the ones with a lot of accessories. Why?

What is not to like about April. She is gorgeous. I am not familiar with this line of dolls. They are very special.

I love her in the blue outfit! I haven’t added an Our Generation girl to our collection yet, but after seeing this I just might bite the bullet finally 🙂
