The Sunshine Blogger Award!

February 28, 2018 By Brandy 4 Comments

I am so honored to be nominated for the Sunshine Blogger Award by Kat over at Oh Sew Kat! Thank you Kat!   If you don’t already know Kat, make sure to check out her wonderful blog and doll clothing patterns; I’m a huge fan!  The Sunshine Blogger Award is an award given by bloggers to other bloggers they find creative, talented, and entertaining. Generally, it’s a great way of opening yourself to the community as well as to your readers, since you need to answer 11 questions from the blogger that nominated you. Then, you write your own 11 creative questions and nominate additional bloggers that need to do the same.

Questions for me from Kat of ‘Of Sew Kat’:

How long did you get into this doll related business? Hmm, I’d say since 2008, when my oldest daughter got her first American Girl doll.  But I’ve loved dolls and crafted for them since I was a young girl.

What is your favorite topic to write/blog/post/photograph about?  I definitely craft and write about doll crafts more than anything.  I love it!  Doll crafting is a great way to connect with my daughters.  I’m thrilled that as they are getting older they still have a strong love of dolls.  It’s been fun having my daughters write on my blog and have input on craft designs.

What is your favorite color for doll clothes or to sew doll clothes?  My favorite color is always RED; love it for anything!

Who is your favorite doll, and why?  That is a really tough question.  I’d have to say my favorite doll is a homemade cabbage patch doll that my mother made me when I was ten years old.

Who is your favorite American Girl character?  Wow, I’m not sure I can decide!  I love history, so I’d say ALL of the historical characters.  I have to admit I think Addy is stunning.

How many dolls do you have?  I have a lot of dolls.  My daughters and I have been very blessed.  Not only do we get dolls as gifts, but I have received several dolls to review for companies.  We make sure all our dolls have good homes; we frequently give to local charities and hospitals.

Who was your first doll, and how old were you when you got this doll?  The first doll that I could really remember as a child was a tiny plastic doll that had a bottle and could drink water.  I named her Rachel.  I think I was 3 or 4 years old.  My first AG dolls was Josefina, a gift from my daughters.

What are some of your other favorite hobbies? I enjoy sewing, reading, and gardening.  I also volunteer at my daughters’ schools.

What are a few of your favorite books for kids or tweens? Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, and the Serafina series.  I also really enjoy the books by American Girl, especially the historical mysteries.

What is your favorite TV show lately?  My daughters and I love Netflix; we continually watch and re-watch Gilmore Girls.

Last but not least, tell us 3 things about yourself we might not know.  1) I am also a Physician Assistant, practicing family medicine for most of my career. So, when I do toy reviews for companies I take safety and development milestones for children very seriously. 2) I am so honored to collaborate with amazing crafters to create fun posts for my blog. 3) Guess what – I don’t have a special craft room or work space…I work from a small home office and my craft supplies are neatly stored in a closet! You can craft anywhere and with anything if you just get creative!

I nominate these bloggers for the Sunshine Blogger Award:

Traci of KeLibu  (fabulous doll crafts and doll clothing patterns)

Winter of Faux Real Food (doll crafts and amazingly realistic doll food)

Laura of Laura’s Little Party  ( wonderful party ideas that I love to recreate for my daughters and sometimes miniaturize them for dolls)

My questions for my nominees:

  1. What prompted you to start a blog?
  2. What has been your favorite blog post?
  3. What is your favorite crafting tool?
  4. What, if any, are your future blogging goals?
  5. What is your biggest lesson learned since blogging?
  6. What is your best tip you could give someone interested in starting a blog?
  7. What has been your biggest obstacle since starting your blog?
  8. Have you ever experienced a creative block, and if so, how did you overcome it?
  9. What other activities do you enjoy when you’re not blogging?
  10. What is your favorite book, movie, or TV show?
  11. Tell us 3 things about yourself we might not know?
